The genealogical chart of the family was designed on the occasion of the 2002 family reunion in form of a real tree with roots, trunk, branches and leaves. It represents the result of 32 years of research and covers 17 generations. Generations are indicated by Roman numerals on the right-hand side of the chart starting on the bottom line. It begins with the progenitor of the family, Jerg Wern the Elder (1480) and ends with the current living generation.

Therefore, the Descendants List is subject to permanent updating by individual family branches. The aim is to find answers to all the question marks on the individual family pages. Early in 2003, genealogically trained representatives of each family branch will be issued with copies of their Family Pages as these are filed in the German Family Archives.

1. The family described in this work is first noted historically around 1480 in Sulz am Neckar in the former dukedom of Württemberg and the present state of Baden-Württemberg in the Federal Republic of Germany. Male and female descendants of the progenitor Jerg Wern the Elder follow through to the present and can be documented over 17 generations. By now they live in four countries on three continents. 

 

2. This descendants list is the result of 32 years of family research and was updated on the occasion of the 2^nd International Reunion of the extended family in August 2002.

 

3. This collection of data comprises two loose-leaf binders with a total of 525 pages; binder 1 contains exclusively the German descendants of the progenitor; binder 2 lists descendants, who, either as single individuals or with their family emigrated to the United States of America, to Argentina and to Great Britain.

 

4. The system provides a Family Sheet for each member bearing the family name provided he attained the age of marriage. It identifies him on the basis of his individual identification signature, his first name, additional names as well as personal details of profession and main places of residence.

 

To guarantee the correct sequence over the generations the parents are also given.

 

The next block contains the main dates in their life (birth, marriage, death and place) as well as the name and dates of spouses before the direct descendants from this marriage appear separately.

 

In this way children are accorded their own identification signature that is, of course, dropped with the descendants of the Wörn wives because they in the main, bear the name of their husband. (See attached sample sheet)

 

5. The identification signature consists of a combination of letters, roman numerals and Arabic numbers. The capital letters show the nationality, the Roman numerals the respective generation and the Arabic numbers the consecutive number within this generation.

 

Comment:

The previously issued identification signatures now become invalid with the issue of this work because they must be re-assigned due to later research results. In future the identification signatures will be centrally assigned due to the expected changes in the 16^th and 17^th generation of revisers of this list.

6. The family sheets use Symbols and Shorthand Expressions generally employed in family research.

7. The descendents list of individual branches of the family will be extracted from this collection of data, completing the representatives of each, closing the gaps and leading to further revision. The descendants list is the basis for the graphical representation of the family branches as well as they are needed for the format of the family chronicle and the display plates.

 

8. This descendants list falls under the regulations of the Data Protection Law. For this reason electronically secure data medium protection is installed in the family documentation centre to prevent unauthorised access to it. The content of this data medium can only be accessed exceptionally and only within the family for continuing work on it, which means that the passing on of the entire work to a third party even for academic purposes requires the approval of the editor. The same proviso applies to the statistical results of this list that are appended at the end of this entire work.

 

9. The editor of this list thanks very sincerely all family members who collected, organised and placed at his disposal the necessary data for their branches of the family.
